Whilst happily enjoying ourselves on Lancaster Universty's LEAD leadership course, and minding our own business, some bright spark suggested that we take part in a "fun" triathlon.  10 weeks later and the event is almost upon us.  4 of us are facing up to the challenge (you can find the other brave souls' pages under "ed beattie", "kate peacock" and "len rainford"), each raising money for their own favourite good causes.

The event takes place on Sunday 20 Sept in Nantwich.  I've just managed to sneak into the over 50's section, which means I receive full cardiac support and a bed bath on completion.

I have chosen to support Practical Action.  Practical Action works with poor communities to help them choose and use technology to improve their lives for today and generations to come. They are currently implementing over 100 projects worldwide. In addition to this, their consultancy and educational work extends the reach of their practical approach to tackling poverty. In 2007-8 Practical Action's staff and volunteers used technology to directly benefit around 792,000 poor women and men through 141 projects in 13 countries.

They work directly with poor communities in four regions of the developing world – Latin America, East Africa, Southern Africa and South Asia, with particular concentration on Peru, Kenya, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
