Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My last sponsored bicycle ride was 20 years ago. Liz and I did the 1993 London-to-Brighton ride on a tandem. I’ve no idea how much we raised back then, but it was all of 60ish miles, over in a day and we had great fun.
Two years later, Ribble Cycles had built a frame for me and I assembled all the bits with the intention of doing loads of miles. A change of work location scotched that idea and the bike, for next 18 years, was very much under used.
As my waist-line increased, so my sense of guilt grew with it. Not enough miles. Now, at last, I’ve bitten the bullet and that bike will be doing a bit more than I did (with help) 20 years ago. In fact almost 300 miles more. With 357 miles to do in four days through Normandy, The Somme and Pas-de-Calais, I’m going to need to do some training.
Rest assured that, 20 years on, age has done my muscles no favours and the distance is more than five times greater, so there will be pain all the way… …including in my pocket, because we pay our own way on the ride, so all your money goes to the good causes.
So your sponsorship would be appreciated. Yes, by me, but also by the good people at UNICEF so they can continue to do the good works.
