Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Setting off on Monday 17 May, I am cycling with friends from Coast to Coast, from Whitehaven to Tynemouth. The first half is mainly uphill, the second downhill once we have crossed The Pennines.
Update: Job done! It was an epic mini adventure completed in two and a half days. Many thanks to everyone who sponsored me.
I am raising money for Build It International (www.builditinternational.org), a small charity making a big difference. It was set up and is run by Andy Jowett , an old university friend. He set up Build IT in 2006 "to create opportunities for poor people in Africa to earn a living and build essential community facilities".
Built IT's objective is to give local people a chance to work their way out of poverty by giving them the skills to build an essential local facility using local and low cost materials. So far, Build IT has completed seven major projects in Zambia including providing education places for 1,250 children.
By 2012, Build IT wants to have completed at least 12 community infrastructure projects, including schools and health clinics benefiting 3000 people directly as well as providing construction skills for many more. It also has plans for a low cost house to roll out in Zambia and possibly other african countries.
Isabel and I will match any sponsorship I receive upto £5,000. If you feel you can sponsor me in any way, I'd be very grateful!
Many thanks.
Peter
