Story
Many thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Having decided to attempt another marathon, following an 18 year break, I was looking to raise funds for a worthy cause in the medical field.
Roger Emery, an eminent orthopaedic surgeon who rescued my own shoulder following a skiing accident, suggested I might raise funds for an important research project being undertaken at Imperial College.
Shoulder (proximal humeral) fractures are a common problem affecting a wide spectrum of patients from young, active individuals to elderly patients with weak ostioporotic bones.
A significant challenge facing surgeons confronted with these complex shoulder fractures is the determination of the most appropriate treatment to ensure the optimum final outcome for the patient in terms of shoulder functionality and relief from discomfort.
The team at Imperial is using state of the art computing, clinical and laboratory methods to improve their basic scientific knowledge of these serious and potentially very debilitating injuries.
The whole thrust behind this fundraising drive has taken on a new dimension since 12th March 2009 when its instigator, Roger Emery, fell whilst running to try to avoid getting a parking ticket and sustaining this very injury himself.
Please give as generously as you can in these current hard times. I will be dragging my aged frame around Paris, and hopefully London, in support of this very worthwhile cause. £1 a mile perhaps............thats £52 for the two marathons, or just do one, whatever you can afford will be gratefully received.
Thanks, Peter.
