I will be accompanying (part of the way) an intrepid Northern Ireland couple in their quest to jointly summit Everest. Noel & Lynne Hanna are aiming to raise £150,000 for the Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) to fund a major new support programme for cancer patients and their families in Northern Ireland. At the age of 36, I was diagnosed with lymphoma. I have now been in remission for nearly 6 years and during this time UCF has been a wonderful support for my family and me. The new service that we are attempting to get up and running will be fantastic support for cancer survivors and their families. The decision to go on this 'Personal Everest Challenge' was a tough one. I am a 42 year old, I am not super-fit and I also suffer from an auto-immune arthritic disease. I have 3 kids and, like most, work commitments. This is most definately outside my 'comfort zone'. But, I hope that my participation as a 'cancer survivor' can, in some way give out the message that life after cancer can be positive and better than ever! All of the money I will raise will go towards this much needed service. We all have many demands placed upon us but please, spare a few pounds, euros or dollars & give as generously as you can. A big thanks to all those who can help! Peter NB: Regrettably China has closed all routes to Everest from Apr -Jun 08. Therefore I've had to postpone my challenge until Apr 09. On the up side, this gives me more time to train & raise even more money for UCF!!
