We are taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London (12 October 2008) in memory of Lucy Clarke our daughter, sister and friend.
Two years ago she was diagnosed with a rare condition called pulmonary hypertension which is a form of high blood pressure in the lungs. It causes the heart to work harder when pumping blood around the body. Lucy bravely bore this illness with dignity and courage, not allowing it to hinder her life, but sadly she lost her fight in April, she was 24.
We will endure thirteen miles of discomfort, nothing compared to what Lucy experienced, to raise funds for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association. This charity supports those people with PH and works with medical experts and pharmaceutical companies in pursuit of a cure.

There are some 4000 people in the UK whose lives are affected by this rare disease.
Emma, Mat and Greg have kindly offered their support with this run (crazy people). Emma works with John, she already had a half marathon organised for October but decided to run the Royal Parks for PHA-UK instead. Mat knew Lucy and is kind of related through various marriages, I think he is looking forward to the challenge of a half marathon. Greg only just managed to get a place due to limited numbers, Greg went to Uni with Lucy and has already organised PHA-UK events in the past. He only has 4 weeks to train! Thanks to all 3 for their support.
