So why are we going to swim across it????
Swimming across the English Channel has been in the back of both of our minds ever since we found out it was possible. For me, that was age 8 and 20 years of mental training later we're going to take up the challenge. Physical training started back in December and over the last 7 months we've swam in pools, lakes, rivers, seas and oceans eaking out the miles and flirting with hypothermia. We're making two separate attempts, Phil leads off between the 13th and 18th of August 2009. Rob then makes his attempt between the 27th of August and the 3rd of September 2009. The cost of bribing the Coastguards and the boats which support us during the crossing are completely covered by ourselves, so the money given via this webpage goes straight to Macmillan Cancer Support.
We have chosen to swim for Macmillan, principally because our uncle Ian Massey was a keen supporter of the charity. Anyone lucky enough to have known uncle Ian, knows what a great man he was and we seek to honour his memory with our swim attempts and in the process raise money for one of the charities with which he had close links. Macmillan provides medical, emotional and financial support for those living with cancer, a very worthy cause.
