Tour of the Southern Alps · 28 May 2012

WellChild is the national charity for seriously ill children. Thousands of children live with complex medical needs. Many spend months, or years in hospital because there is no support enabling them to leave. We exist to give these children the best chance to thrive: at home, with their families.

Story

In mid June I cycled from Saint Oyen (near Moutiers) to Nice, through the Southern French Alps.

Over 3 days, we covered almost 400km and climbed over 8000m in the process, following routes used regularly for the Tour de France. Among the mountain highlights will be the Col de la Madeleine, the Col d'Izoard and the Col du Galibier.  In all, we will climbed 5 peaks at heights in excess of 2000m.

Rather than simply doing this for "fun", I am hoping to raise money for WellChild, the charity that does fantastic work with seriously ill children across the UK.

Many of you, like me, have children and have been fortunate that they enjoy good health and I hope this continues.  Others haven't been so fortunate and WellChild helps children and their families cope with serious illness across the UK.

WellChild is creating a countrywide network of WellChild Nurses who are improving the lives of sick children and their families by helping to ensure that children with complex needs can leave hospital and return home wherever possible. These nurses are vital in the prevention of frequent hospital re-admissions and they work closely with a wide range of other professionals and local services in the community to ensure that families receive the support they need.

For over 30 years, WellChild has been doing invaluable work and I urge you to learn more by visiting their website at:

More importantly, I hope that you will be able to help me in supporting this worthwhile case.

So come on, dig deep and donate now.
