London to Paris Cycle Ride · 10 September 2008 ·

Church Mission Society began in 1799 with a group of Christians, including William Wilberforce, who said yes to Jesus’ call to follow him to the edges. Today, in that same pioneering spirit, we continue to share Jesus’ love at the edges – working in over 40 countries across the world and in the UK.

Story

Thank you to so many people who have helped me raise money for such an important cause.

You can see some photos from the ride on the TeamCMS bike blog at http://mission.typepad.com/bike

Bike to the boulevards
You may have heard my cycling stories until you’re sick of them. But – am I still up to it? To find out, I’m riding from London to Paris to raise money for CMS.

Cycle to the Seine

I'm  collecting sponsorship to raise the maximum to help CMS transform lives around the world. As the ad says, 'Every little helps'. Besides, if you don’t, I will hunt you down and tell you all about my trip,… for hours,… with photos,… and slides,… you cannot escape. So why not donate now.

CMS in action: Wim & Bertha Schoonbee are bringing the gift of sight  in Rwanda
Gahini Hospital, Rwanda, makes thorough use of meagre resources and currently has three doctors. In recognition of in the quality of care, referrals come from across the region.

Dr Wim carries out general surgery, eye operations in the new eye theatre and eye-health outreach within the community. He is training local people in providing eye care and has a passion that some of these people will be able to start providing eye care in the desperately needed areas of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. This area has been especially ravaged by war with very few medical facilities and little eye care.

First steps out of darkness and loneliness
Dr Bertha
works in the highly acclaimed rehabilitation centre. In addition to rehab, the centre trains disabled people in skills to earn a living. “Recently, Mileé came to the rehab centre… an angry, frustrated little blind girl.  Four years old, but unable to stand, hold a cup or speak.  After two periods of rehabilitation she has become a little more sociable, allows one to touch and hug her, is interested to learn new things and movements and sometimes her face lights up with a lovely little smile. She still only says one word: Da.ta (short for Donata, her caretaker) and walks only with support.”

Please help CMS support the work of Wim, Bertha and many other partners and support personnel who are transforming lives and communities around the world.

Thank you so much!
