Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: United Through Sport will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

I need all your help to raise a lot of money for different charities by sponsoring me in all the different races that I am competing in this coming year.

I have decided to give all the money I raise to United Through Sport. I have always enjoyed my sport: rugby and tennis when I was younger, through to cross country and Triathlon now. United Through Sport is an international sports development charity that uses the power of sport to deliver fun, education and improved health to some of the poorest and most vulnerable communities on earth. Working with grassroots organisations, it delivers choice, opportunity and hope to those living in poverty throughout Africa and Central America. For more information please go to: www.unitedthroughsport.org.

During this year, I will be competing in a total of 237.1 miles (370.4km) of various races including the Ironman UK, held on September the 7th in the grounds of Sherbourne Castle. The two preparation races I am competing in are the London Marathon on April 13th, and Ironman 70.3 (half Ironman) on June 15th.

The Ironman Race was first held in Hawaii about 30 years ago. It is a Triathlon race and consists of a 2.4 mile (3.84km) open-water swim, 112mile (179.2km) cycle and finishes with a marathon: 26.2 miles (42.19km) run. There is a cut off time limit of 17 hours. I want to complete it in less than 12 hours, and get as close to 11 hours as possible.

The Flora London Marathon on the 13th April covers 26.2 miles through London. This will be a practice race to ensure I am comfortable with the Marathon distance. This year, the London Marathon will be celebrating its 100th anniversary since the Olympics of 1908.

The Ironman 70.3 is half the distance of the Ironman, and like the Marathon will be used as a practice race to smooth over transitions between the three disciplines and check that my nutrition and hydration through the race is working efficiently.

Having been accepted in all these races, I have realised it is a great opportunity to raise a lot of money for charity. Usually different charities anticipate that about £1000 to £1500 will be raised by each competitor taking part in the London Marathon. As I am racing almost ten times the distance, I am really hoping to raise a significant amount of money for charity.

Therefore, I would like to ask you now for your support. However small, the amount that you contribute will make a difference to others less fortunate.

Any amount of money you want to donate: please email me with the total, per mile, per cm, whatever you want to do, and I will get back to you.

Please give generously: together we have the opportunity to do a lot of good.

Many thanks in all your help,

Philip Hatzis
