Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I am taking on the challenge of running the Robin Hood Half Marathon in memory of my uncle Ernie Roberts who was a very special man.
For me this is a huge challenge as I have never run a race in my life let alone a half marathon, but I have decided to enter this event as a way of remembering my uncle and the bravery that he showed throughout his battle with cancer.
Ernie was an avid supporter and campaigner for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. My uncle had a fantastic singing voice and spent many years entertaining people with his talent but like Roy Castle possibly paid the price for this from his time spent in smoky clubs. But despite his diagnosis of lung cancer and the experience of radical surgery and treatment he never once lost his positive outlook and will to fight. He gave a lot of time to the Department of Health and their expert patient programme and for me was a real inspiration within my work in the NHS.
It is for these reasons that I want to run this race for him and I just hope that I can show a similar level of grit and determination to keep going when the going gets tough.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you for your support and every pound that I raise will make every mile that I run really worthwhile and create an ever lasting memory of my uncle.
