On 26th April 2009 I ran the Flora London Marathon for The Jessica Taylor Charity Fund. I did this with the hope of raising as much money for Jessica's charity as I possibly could. YOU CAN HELP TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.
On August 1st 2007 13 year old Jess Taylor was diagnosed with a Medulloblastoma brain tumour. Jess has since undergone three operations, 12 weeks of chemotherapy and 32 sessions of radiotherapy to her spine and head.
During the initial surgery Jess unfortunately suffered a minor stroke which has affected her walking and balance, and has been receiving physiotherapy to hopefully regain or improve this situation.
Both the chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments has resulted in many awful side effects and Jess has endured all these problems with tremendous courage and determination.
It became clear that when Jess was recovering from her operations or undergoing chemotherapy treatment she would soon become bored with the inactivity. There is only so much television or visitors a teenager can endure which is why her mother Karen Taylor and grandfather Derek Huddleston decided to raise money to equip nine single rooms within Kamran's (Children's Cancer), and Melanie's (Adolescent) Wards at The John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
Each room has now been equipped with a 42” wall mounted flat screen television with internet access, wireless mouse, keyboard and a play station 3. There is also the use of 17 new laptop computers for children staying on each ward to use during their stay in hospital. This will enable youngsters who are seriously affected by cancer and receiving treatment to have contact with the outside world during lonely treatment times.
Karen and Derek have now decided to continue their support to the John Radcliffe Hospital, and would like to purchase a new specialist treatment couch for children who are in need of a lumber puncher, something that is greatly needed.
Running the Flora London Marathon was no easy task, but every penny raised was worth the pain with the knowledge that with your support we are contributing to this wonderful cause.
The Jessica Taylor Charity Fund is working closely with registered charity brainstrust, which will enable them to reclaim the gift aid tax bonus.
