*******Update on 17/5/2010********
Alison came in at 55 mins 10 seconds, 5 minutes faster than she had ever done the run in the gym, and Anne completed the course in 1 hour, 13 minutes and 8 seconds - 15 minutes off her best time. A good day all round!
On Sunday 16th May we ran the Manchester 10k in aid of The Christie (www.christies.org), based in Manchester.
This charity raises money to fund projects at The Christie which are outside the scope of the NHS. Last year they raised nearly £12 million which funded a whole range of things, including a new radiopharmacy, to communications skills training for nursing staff, a new state-of-the-art surgical robot, groundbreaking cancer research and a wig service (to name but a few).
We have all been affected by friends and family having some form of cancer, whether they have won the battle or are no longer with us. This charity makes the lives of those with cancer more bearable and gives hope that in the future fewer friends and family will suffer this disease.
We took to running last year in order to get fit and lose weight. Anne wanted to get back into her Jaeger suits and Barbados bikinis, and Alison needed to find an alternative to those all day mountain biking sessions (not so easy to dash off to the hills with 2 kids under the age of 4!).
In the last year Anne has gone from being able to jog a mile to running 6; she also lost 2 stone in the process. Alison took part in the Great North Run and the Wilmslow Half Marathon. You may recall pictures of us dressed up as Santa last December in a 5k dash......
