Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

UPDATE 5TH JULY 2009I

Piers set off on his Channel attempt just after 8 am on 4th July 2009, and everything started well, however his shoulder injury sustained 3 weeks ago during training began to cause problems an hour and a half into the swim.  At 6 hours and half way across Piers could no longer continue due to the pain and had to stop.  As I am sure you will appreciate Piers is very disappointed but incredibly appreciative of his support crew on the day and everyone else's support and sponsorship.  Piers' very much feels that this is unfinished business and will be back to try another day.

am attempting to swim the English Channel on the 3rd or 4th July 2009.  My reasons for doing so are manifold.  One of my main motivations is to raise money for The Parkinson's Disease Society.  My father has been diagnosed with this condition for ten years.

My training started in Australia back in 2006 where I was accompanied by jellyfish in my swimming trunks during an early swim.  Since then  I have undertaken many miles with the warm words of my brother-in-law ringing in my ears. "You're fat and will be dead in 10 years time."  The truth alway hurts!

As I near the end of a long journey I am very conscious of the support I have been given in the technical areas and also by those closest to me allowing me the time to train. My wife when recently asked by one of my support crew whether she thought I would succeed in my attempt kindly said If he doesn't don't bother to bring him back as he will be unbearable.

So please sponsor me now!
