About my charity : Cancer Research UK Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the world's leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research. We support research into all aspects of cancer through the work of more than 4,250 scientists, doctors and nurses. Over the past 10 years alone, thousands of lives have been saved through earlier detection and improved treatments. But, much work remains to be done if we are to achieve our aim of beating cancer.

My personal message:

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Attempt
Between August 7 and 16 I will attempt to solo swim the English Channel.
Since the first crossing in 1875 in almost 22 hrs, 9,000 further attempts have been made but only 900 crossings to date have been successful. To put this in perspective more people have reached the top of Everest or been in space. The challenge is made up of not only the distance which is more than 20 miles (34 km) but also cold water - 16 degrees celcius! Regulations strictly prohibit a wetsuit or any other protective layer so I will be prey to jellyfish the size of dinner plates in just a pair of swimming shorts.

Training
After months of 6am trainings and many cold water swims, including a plunge in 3 degrees celcius water in January I have swum some 300km in preparation so far. The latest milestone was a gruelling 6hr swim in 16 degrees celcius to officially qualify for the swim.

Cause
Cancer Research UK is a cause that is close to my heart having lost someone dear recently. It is the world's leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research. They support research into all aspects of cancer through the work of more than 4,250 scientists, doctors and nurses.
