Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the Surrey Advertiser's JustGiving page.

The Surrey Advertiser Pint-A-Week Appeal was launched in March in conjunction with Guildford Charity, the Prostate Project.

The idea is that, if 4,831 people were to donate the equivalent cost of a pint of beer every week for two years, we can build a new £2.1m stand-alone urological centre at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. This will treat men and women with different urological conditions and will be one of the leading centres in the UK.

So far, this campaign has attracted the support of figures ranging from Health minister and Guildford MP, Anne Milton, to celebrity publicist, Max Clifford.

Mrs Milton said: “It is great to see the Surrey Advertiser supporting this campaign and I think this a great opportunity. The Prostate Project has done so much to support research and services in this area.

“Prostate cancer is the largest cancer killer of men, so we need to raise funds and awareness.

“We are not always as good as we should be about going to the doctor where symptoms can be picked up.”

Iincreasing patient load and limited funds for expansion mean a new urology centre is much-needed at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, which already boasts consultants who are some of the leading lights in prostate cancer treatment in the UK.

A key benefit of the new centre will be a much closer collaboration with researchers working at the University of Surrey Postgraduate Medical School.

The site for the new urological centre is ready and waiting on the RSCH complex opposite the Nuffield Hospital and next to St Luke’s Cancer Centre.

The Prostate Project has been going since 1998 and has raised more than £5 million over the last 12 years.

It is run by volunteers with administration costs of less than 2%, which means that 98 pence in every pound donated goes straight to the point of need.

Scientists from the medical school working with the Prostate Project recently made a breakthrough by discovering a new urine test that is twice as accurate as the standard PSA test in detecting prostate cancer. This is a major breakthrough and has international interest.

Please consider donating a one-off payment on this page, or signing up to the appeal and donating monthly through www.prostate-project.org.uk (01483 419501).

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they will never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they will send your money directly to the Prostate Project charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

So it is the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, while saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now to be part of creating a world class treatment centre that will save thousands and thousands of lives.

Please see http://www.getsurrey.co.uk for further information on the Surrey Advertiser Campaign.
