AIDS is South Africa's single biggest killer and by 2010 it may prove fatal for as many as 7 million people. This will leave an estimated 1.7 million children orphaned by AIDS and thousands of others vulnerable as their family units disintegrate.
Fortunately we can help. I will run 31km as my effort to make a difference and I will try to raise £500 to help the situation.
On August 31, 2008 I will be running 10km as part of The Human Race. On October 12, 2008, I will be running The Royal Parks Half Marathon as a member of The Starfish Greathearts Foundation, a development charity, aiming to bring life, hope and opportunity to children in South Africa, who have been orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS.
I’m asking you to join me in this effort to help improve the lives of children. The funds raised will aid in building the capacity of community-based organisations across South Africa to meet the basic needs of children in their own communities.
Running, especially the half marathon, will be a great personal challenge for me. Knowing that my friends have given me their encouragement through contributions to Starfish in support of my run will make every step toward the finish line a little easier. As I run, I’ll remember your kindness in sponsoring me.
Everyone can make a very real difference to the lives of these children, helping them - one child at a time.
