It's been 4 years and about 2-and-a-half stone since my first attempt at the London Marathon. This year, I have got my place and I'm trying to raise money for the NSPCC.
In anticipation of the London Marathon, all the pupils at my school, Kirk Ireton C of E Primary, ran or walked our 'Marathon in a Month' challenge (for more details see below), also for the NSPCC. You can donate in support of this event here as well.
Of course, just running a marathon didn't seem enough of a challenge in my addled brain, so I hope people will take account of the following when sponsoring me and supporting such a worthy cause!
Here is the 2009 Challenge Agenda so far:
January: Strive to get back into some sort of shape and lose weight!
February: Start of 'Marathon-in-a-Month' with the Pupils of Kirk Ireton Primary School - visit www.kirkiretonprimary.co.uk to find out more. CHILDREN HAVE COMPLETED THE WHOLE 26.2 MILES!!! WHAT AN EFFORT!
March: Silverstone Race-Track Half-Marathon - COMPLETED in 1hr 57mins 3secs
April: Derby 10k COMPLETED in 46mins 53secs and London Marathon COMPLETED in 3hrs 58mins 57secs
May: Might be a good time to have a break and squeeze in having our second child!! Willow Eliza born 19th May weighing in at 7lbs 15oz
June: NEW CHALLENGE! Darley Park 10k Adventure Race (Running, River Crossing + Obstacles) Completed in 49mins 58secs
July: 3 Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours) Completed in 23hrs 42mins and Blithefield Triathlon (1500m swim 37min 38 secs, 40km bike ride 1hr 32mins 22secs, 10km run 1hr 44secs) Completed in 3hrs 10mins 44secs
September: Great North Run (Half-Marathon) Completed in 1hr 47mins 30secs
October: NEW CHALLENGE! Getting ambitious with half-marathon PB, so half entered the Worksop half-marathon. Completed in 1hr 41mins 39secs
November: The BIG finish - running the New York Marathon. Completed in 3hrs 47mins 45secs
December: Collapse in a heap (provided I'm still in one piece)!!
