Story

On the 11th May 2013 a number of us will complete the Burghley House Rat Race (a 20 Mile assault course! http://www.ratracedirtyweekend.com)  for two charities that mean a lot to us. The charities are The Prunella Ellwood Appeal Fund and The Royal Anglian Benevolent Fund, all money raised will be split equally between the two.

The Prunella Ellwood Appeal Fund - http://www.peaf.org.uk

Prue has been a friend of Alex and Charlie since they were 15 years old. They went to school and university together and were due to be posted just minutes away from each other. On the 12 December 2011 Prue had an road traffic accident when driving back to work.

Prue has managed to fit so much into her first 24 years. She was extremely active and loved jumping out of planes, skiing, surfing and playing rugby. She had a huge impact on everyone that met her with her infectious personality. She is a beautiful girl both inside and out and has been fighting so hard for the last year in a coma. She is a remarkable young lady with a loving family and many devoted friends.

Prue is currently at Putneys' Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability where she is receiving rehabilitation. Prior to this she was at Addenbrookes Hospital for 6 months where she underwent 6 operations on her brain. In the accident she sustained catastrophic head injuries and is in a state that is medically refered to as "low awareness".

The Prunella Ellwood Appeal Fund has been set up in order to assist with the cost of her care. Prue will one day be coming home and money will be needed to help make the house accessible for her. Until that time the money will be used to pay for the expensive medical rehabilitation that she needs. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.

The Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Fund

The Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Charity is registered with the Charity Commission (No 1085050). The stated object of the Charity is the relief of persons who are:

·       in need, hardship or distress and

·       are serving or former members of The Royal Anglian Regiment or Former Regiments and dependants of such persons.

It has made grants totalling £107,000 over the past year alone, to over 275 cases.  Cases vary from assistance to soldiers on operations in Afghanistan to helping Old Comrades and their families.  Each case is judged on its own merits.  Casework is initially handled by a Caseworker from the Soldiers, Sailors and Air Force Association (SSAFA) or The Royal British Legion, who visit the applicant and discuss their needs and background details.  The case is then sent to Regimental Headquarters where the Benevolent Committee sits in consideration.  It is aimed to turn casework around in 24 hours as the needs are invariably urgent.

Both charities affect members of the team and any support would be much appreciated!
