POLLY HADDEN-PATON & JAMIE COATS ARE RUNNING THE LONDON MARATHON 2013 FOR THE STARLIGHT CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION.
 
After a few glasses of wine, a long lunch and a lot of egging each other on, we decided that we could definitely run the 2013 London marathon on 21st April without a problem having both been fitness fanatics our whole lives!! After comments such as 'it looks so easy', 'we could do it in record time', 'don’t know what all the fuss is about' we ended up then and there applying for a running spot with the Starlight Children’s’ Foundation. The following morning, bleary-eyed, a little hung-over and not so full of dutch courage we found out that we had both got a place.
 
Starlight brightens the lives of seriously and terminally ill children by wish granting and also by providing fun, entertainment, laughter and distraction for children in every children’s hospital ward and hospice throughout the United Kingdom. All Starlight’s activities are aimed at distracting children from the pain, fear and isolation they can often feel as a result of their illnesses. Polly has worked for Starlight and has seen the work they do first hand - they really do make children’s wishes come true.
 
A few months on and our marathon training is in full swing. For those of you who know us well you will be well aware that exercise does not come naturally but we are trying despite the fact that our legs are in constant pain and dragging ourselves out into the cold for a run after work is not top of our wish list!!  However we are both fully committed to completing the course and are spurred on by the fact that with your help we will be raising as much money as possible for this very worthwhile charity.

Starlight is truly an inspiring charity and the money we raise will one hundred percent put some big smiles on some very brave but ill children.
