Story

Some time ago, when I firmly believed I was going to have lost loads of weight by the summer, I was asked by a doctor friend if I would run 10K for an asthma and allergy research charity. Knowing the terrific work she does in this field, how tough it is to get funding, and how easy 10K would be "in the future", I blithely agreed.

So, on 10th July, still 30-odd kilos/>4.5 stone/>65 lbs over my proper healthy weight I will be doing said run. Because - with the exception of losing weight - when I say I'm going to do something, I do it.

If this is not impressive/stupid/hilarious enough for you, I won't be wearing conventional running shoes either. I've been slowly re-learning how to run in Vibram FiveFingers "barefoot running shoes". Check 'em out. The only cushioning between this behemoth and the tarmac is what nature provided me with (which, as it happens, is flat feet - thanks nature, you idiot) and a thin layer of rubber.

And yes, I do mean "re-learning how to run". Running barefoot/in VFFs is completely different from running with heel support. So, despite my modest running experience over the years, this is completely different and completely new.

So please sponsor me and help this small, but very important charity. I don't have a very big target to reach, but it would be good to smash it, and then some.

Come on. It'll be funny.
