RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

Thanks for visiting the Portaferry Boathouse Appeal fundraising page.

Portaferry lifeboat station has served our community since its establishment in 1980.   During this time, our volunteer lifeboat crew members have launched on 636 call outs and saved the lives of 95 people while rescuing hundreds more.

Volunteer crew members and fundraisers from Portaferry have launched an appeal to raise £75,000 towards the cost of building a bigger lifeboat station to house their new Atlantic 85 Blue Peter lifeboat, which is due on service next year.  The Atlantic 85 has many advancements on its predecessor including a faster top speed, radar, provision for a fourth crewmember and more room for survivors.

These improvements mean the new lifeboat will be over a metre longer than the current Atlantic 75 and therefore it will not fit into the existing boathouse.  Space is already limited at Portaferry station, with no designated drying or changing areas for the volunteer crewmembers.  The planned new boathouse is designed to accommodate the larger Atlantic 85 lifeboat, and give the crew proper training and changing facilities.

We need your help to raise the funds needed to build the boathouse. Help us build our new boathouse at Portaferry by Buying a Brick and becoming a part of lifeboat history.

Gold brick         £20.00
Silver brick       £10.00
Bronze brick       £5.00

Purchasers of Gold, Silver and Bronze bricks will have their name inscribed in a commemorative book, which will be kept in the new Boathouse.  Please complete the comment field with your name and location as you would like it to appear in the book eg Jane Brown, Downpatrick. Of course you also have the option of keeping your donation anonymous.

Jusgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to donate to the appeal: RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please donate now!
