Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the Princethorpe College-Mary's Meals JustGiving page!

We have now completed the Coventry Way 40 Mile Walk

THE COVENTRY WAY WALK

Some of us were up at 4am on Sunday 15th April 2012! As always we started at the Queen's Head Meriden at 6am and we were blessed with beautiful weather as we circled around Coventry in the spring sunshine.

This is now the fifth year of Princethorpe College participation in the 40 mile Coventry Way Walk raising money for Mary’s Meals. For the first time we have broken the 1000 mile barrier with 19 students, 4 staff and 3 parents walking a combined total of 1207.4 miles.

The fastest time was our Headboy Will Harper-Lawrence with a staggering 11 hours. The Headmaster Ed Hester completed the walk in 12 hours and 30 minutes. Millie Bray and Ben Warman along with staff members Rod Isaacs and Anila Patel were the last (but by no means least) to finish after more than 14 hours of walking. Yes, it did seem never-ending at times!

THANK YOU to the Coventry Way organisers for a fantastic event, to all those who took part, for their courage and determination and to you for your generosity! As you can see, we are well on the way to our £3000 target which is needed to provide a school meal every day for 120 children at B.Williams School in Bomi County, Liberia.

THE 24/7 CHALLENGE

On Thursday 29th March, 28 students and seven staff walked a total of 792 miles between them and enjoyed a day of beautiful sunshine as they took part in the first ever Princethorpe College 24/7 challenge.

The goal was to complete a 24 mile route from Ryton to Meriden in under seven hours of walking and in doing so raise money for Mary’s Meals.

First to finish was Ellie Eaton with a time of 6 hours 56 minutes, closely followed by Bethany Leigh and Bethany Smith in 7 hours exactly. A further 14 students and staff completed the walk in under 7 hours 59 minutes (which, taking into account one hour of stoppage time, still qualified!).

Five students from year 11 also took part to raise money for the Tanzania Expedition this summer with four of them bravely completing the full 24 miles. Miss Patel finished the walk despite bleeding blisters as did James Simpson despite a painful hockey injury – just two examples of the indomitable Princethorpe spirit.

Mr Griffin and Mr Lane ‘tracked’ the wayward walkers over a nine hour period manning four separate checkpoints en route and parents generously provided cake, food, energy bars, muffins, sandwiches and drinks.
