On Saturday 27th February, the Howard League committee at Bristol University will be walking 15 miles to Eastwood Park Prison.

We will be starting the walk at the University at 10am and the walk to the prison is estimated to take us 5 hours!

We are raising money to give to the Howard League for Penal Reform, which we support through our society at University.

Eastwood Park Prison is a women's prison in Falfield, near Thornbury. It has a high self-harm rate: in the year to November 2008 there were 2,290 incidents reported- over 6 reported incidences a day.

The sponsored walk comes nearly two months after Jack Straw visited the prison and concluded that 'we should punish and reform females in the community and not in prisons.'

The purpose of the walk is to raise money and awareness about the Howard League for Penal Reform. We strongly believe that penal reform will lead to reduced reoffending rates and safer communities.

The Howard League is completely independent of government and relies on voluntary donations.

So please support us by making a donation and keep your fingers crossed for us that it won't rain!
