Project 333 for ‘Rwanda Restored’
Hello there!!
We* will be cycling from the Lake District (Seascale) to Tynemouth (144 miles) - coast to coast - then back again via the Scottish border (189 miles) over 4 days - thus Project 333 - to raise £5000 towards the completion of dormitories for 200 girls who attend Gihogwe School, Kigali as boarders.
During the Rwanda genocide of 1994 between 800,000 and 1,000,000 people were killed, and hundreds of thousands of widows and orphans were left behind. Many atrocities were committed including those against children - Rwanda’s infrastructure was destroyed leaving nearly 3 million refugees.
Considerable progress has been made since then however many people still find it hard to find food and cannot afford to send children to school. 29 per cent of Rwandan children are orphans and/or vulnerable (Rwanda Standard DHS 2005), 26 per cent of school age children are still out of school (UNESCO 2005).
Rwanda Restored, a registered charity, was established by Geoff Lane a retired HR manager in 2006. After working in India with street children for 3 years, he visited Rwanda in 1999 and saw a country trying to get back on its feet. The projects main objective is to help provide a bright future for Rwanda children and their country by providing them with an opportunity to attend school.

Please be as generous as possible to enable this dormitory to be completed in 2013!
