Drug treatment is actually the first step on a journey of recovery for someone trying to get their life back on track after a period of substance misuse. They often have a big task ahead of them in terms of securing paid employment and training opportunities and developing new social support networks as a lot of people from their old lifestyles may still be drinking and/or using drugs. Many people have a real drive to give back but they often need training, crb checks and support to be able to start helping others. If they can become involved in peer mentoring opportunities it not only means they can support someone who is going through same thing they did but helps maintain their own recovery by the sense of confidence and self-worth it promotes. Another issue is securing stable housing which Foundation66 also supports with by providing first month deposits, building relationships with private landlords and helping with any tenancy applications.
