Eighty million of the world's children do not go to school, and one-fifth of the world's adults are illiterate. All these people live in absolute poverty, and are effectively excluded from taking control of their lives. Book Aid International increases access to books and information to support literacy, education and development in Sub Saharan Africa. We work in partnership with local organisations to support public, community and education libraries, organisations working in human rights, and initiatives that seek to improve the quality of primary education. Because we believe that books change lives.

My story

So, thank you all for coming to my page! Most of the people who know about the run think I'm crazy. A month into training and I'm starting to agree with them... Still, it'll be a lovely 13-mile run through the parks of London in mid-October - just three days before Frankfurt book fair! I'm aiming for a time of 2 hours and 15 minutes, but to be honest I would be happy with just finishing without having to walk. Still, there are a few months to go and a lot of training ahead. Anything is possible!

I'm running for Book Aid International, a fantastic charity that sends books and other educational material to sub-Saharan Africa to help literacy initiatives in schools and libraries. As they say, 'books change lives', so this is a cause I feel is really important.
