What started as a simple "Let's go walking in the Dales at the weekend" has gradually over the months progressed to "Let's climb Ben Nevis!", as these things do. So here we are, 5 very keen (but somewhat inexperienced) walkers aiming to get to the top of the highest mountain in the British Isles. And our team? First of all we have Rebecca, who is our motivational guru. Lucy and Claudia have the experience (or possibly just the equipment) to make sure we don't get lost on the mountain, and Anna is our driver, helping us to get there in the first place. We also have Suzi, co-driver and cook. After much deliberation, we decided the Alzheimer's Society was the most worthy cause we could raise money for, so here's a bit about what they do and who you'll be helping out by supporting us on this trip. Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading care and research charity for people with dementia and those who care for them.

There are 700,000 people with dementia in the UK with numbers set to rise to one million by 2025.

The Society's fight for a better world for people with all types of dementia takes a wide range of forms. Through our branches, we touch the lives of over 30,000 people every week, providing practical services and support for people with dementia and their carers. Every year, more than a million people make use of the information we provide.

Through campaigning and lobbying we strive to influence government policies and raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with dementia and the people who care for them. And through our research programme we work to improve the knowledge we have about dementia and its treatment - and pursuing the ultimate goal of finding a cure.
