Thank you for following the link to our page. We know there are a lot of good causes you could give to, particularly at the moment, but we would be really grateful if you are happy to donate any amount to help maintain the facilities at Amy's Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit in Chertsey.

I, along with a few other mums who also had babies on the unit, are organising a fundraising event at Painshill Park in Cobham - a day out for mums and babes and a sponsored pram push around the park. There is more information about it at www.justgiving.com/pushingforNICU.

The unit has looked after over 1000 babies in the last year. This ‘Level 3’ Unit has the facilities to care for the sickest of newborns and premature babies. All the admissions are emergencies! The more up-to-date life saving equipment the unit has to hand, the better they can cope with the constantly fluctuating demand. For example, an incubator costs £12,000, standard monitoring equipment £15,000 and a ventilator £25,000. Your money will contribute towards the purchase of this and other life-saving equipment and facilities.

Amy arrived 10 weeks earlier than advertised last August weighing only 3lbs and 1 oz. She spent 45 days on the unit, and throughout was given such impressive care, both in terms of the facilities and equipment and, as importantly, the skill and thoughtfulness of the nursing staff. We couldn't fault it and hope that future parents can have the same experience.

So please will you sponsor me to push Amy around Painhill Park (in between running around taking entry £s, selling donated goods in our discount baby shop and hustling for donations to do baby yoga classes!)

I know it's not the most extreme of challenges, but I can't head off up the Himalayas without her and with babies who received so much care it would be a little crazy to endanger them, right?!....although I will be doing a full turn around the Park, a 2.5mile route with rough terrain and inclines - not just the shorter wheelchair accessible route!
