International action for Iraqi Refugees (IAIR) is an independent charity based in London; registered with the Charity commission in April '08, working to alleviate pain and suffering of displaced Iraqis inside Iraq and neighbouring countries. It sponsors orphans and students school fees. Millions more need help. IAIR is independent, receives no help from any government. Run by volunteers.

Story

So this summer the boys and I have decided to do something really hard and really good. We're cycling from Big Ben to the Eiffel Tower on shabby second hand bikes with no training. We're making this intentionally difficult for ourselves - we want to earn your money, not just ask for it.

We're raising money for a great independent UK based charity, with no overheads - "International Action for Iraqi Refugees" (IAIR). Their name is a little misleading so allow me to fill you in:

A vast proportion of the young men in Iraq are either dead or currently and indefinitely imprisoned with little or no evidence against them. This has left behind literally millions of orphans and young widows with either no breadwinners or simply noone, but always with no governmental support.

The most recent data from The Iraqi Anti-Corruption Board and official Governmental statistics suggest that there are now more than 5 million Iraqi orphans. The Ministry of Womens' Affairs in Iraq states that there are more than 3 million new Iraqi widows. Let's put those figures into perspective; current estimations state that there are 7 million Londoners. Imagine if everyone in London and its surroundings were either orphans or young widows, with absolutely no help from the government. These people have nothing to do with the war and are simply caught in the cross fire.

100% of all donations to IAIR go directly to these people. The charity is run by volunteers so they have absolutely no overheads. I know times are tough for many right now but that also means that corporate donations to most charities have declined pretty drastically. All donations do help, no matter how small!
