Essentially we are driving from Edinburgh to the Coliseum in Rome in ten days, camping every night and travelling a route which we are unaware of until each morning. It sounds like a walk in the park right, hardly a challenge or a struggle.....

Here’s the catch: you have to buy and prepare your car for £500.... yep just £500 not including MOT, Tax and Insurance.... even so not a lot of money to get a vehicle to carry you and your gear THE LONG WAY to Rome, circa 3000 miles to get there.

A quote from the R2R website

"You’re doing it in a car that cost less than £500 in foreign countries on challenging roads. Rust 2 Rome will push you to the limits from start to finish."

Remember the roads from movies like the Italian Job, Casino Royale and Ronin, those twisty ones going around the side of a mountain? That’s the roads you’ll be driving on. This isn’t for the faint hearted. If you can handle it you’ll be rewarded by the sight of the Roman Coliseum at sunset after ten days of the most breath taking driving you’ll ever do.

That is, if you make it....

If we make it there, we then have to get home in one piece too :-) although I think it might be a more direct route home...

We are entering this rally to challenge ourselves and at the same time raise funds to show our support to Help for Heroes, which in our view is one of many valuable causes that does wonderful work for our military.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you stay long enough to make a donation, however large or small will be greatly appreciated.

The Dirty Martinis thank you.
