Story

<p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">On 11 June 2011 I'll be at the start line in John O'Groats to see whether&nbsp;nine months of training through wind, rain, ice, snow, hail, thunder, lightning and&nbsp;a bit of sunshine has put me in the shape to take on what I suspect will be a once in a lifetime opportunity.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">I will join hundreds of other cyclists as we depart from John O'Groats on a nine day journey cycling 950 miles to Lands End.&nbsp; Our route, which&nbsp;will take us&nbsp;through the hills of Scotland and England, will in total climb further than twice the height of&nbsp;Everest.&nbsp; We'll be cycling 100+ miles&nbsp;a day and camping overnight.&nbsp;&nbsp; The <a href="http://rideacrossbritain.com/Default.aspx" target="_blank">Deloitte Ride Across Britain</a>&nbsp;is organised by the same folk that have put together some of the recent Sport Relief challenges.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">The event itself is in support of the <a title="Just Giving Page" href="http://www.justgiving.com/RAB2011-GB" target="_blank">GB Paralympics team</a>, but I also want to use the event to try to raise money for Epilepsy Society - the leading national epilepsy charity working for everyone affected by epilepsy, through our cutting edge research, awareness campaigns and expert care.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Having seen the impact epilepsy can have on young children I'm keen to raise funds to help with school awareness programmes and carer support:-</span>&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">&pound;3 covers the cost of 5 free information leaflets.</span></span></span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">&pound;10 means that someone can talk to a trained helpline operator. This could be useful for someone who is a carer to find out information about places for support and answers to any questions they might have.</span></span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">&pound;30 covers the cost of a volunteer&rsquo;s training day.</span></span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">&pound;100 covers the cost of running a schools awareness programme. This includes training ,staff time and provision of all leaflets and materials needed.</span></span></span></p> <p><span> </span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Thank you so much for your support, having talked with the charity I'm sure every penny will help make a difference to&nbsp;the society's&nbsp;work.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Ian</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">I am also using the event to raise money for Greatwood - a charity caring for retired racehorses and children with special needs, for which I have a JustGiving page <a href="http://www.justgiving.com/rab2011" target="_blank">here</a>.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">=================================================</span></p> <p><span style="color: #0000ff;">Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
