Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In October 2016 my little boy Reuben was diagnosed with High Risk Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive type of cancer, at the age of just 16 months. Sadly, after 9 months of intensive non stop treatment and so many days and nights in hospital, he lost his fight against this terrible disease and passed away on 6th August 2017, aged just 2 years old.

Obviously losing my little boy this way was absolutely devastating to me, my wife and our family. Reuben was doing so well with his treatment, he bravely faced up to every challenge like a true little hero. We really thought he would be one of the lucky few to survive Neuroblastoma.

In the U.K. cancer is the most common cause of death in children aged 1-14 years! Despite this, children's cancer research is almost entirely funded by donations and fundraising by the public. The aim of the North of England Children’s Cancer Research is to find better and less aggressive treatments for children’s cancer and improve survival rates.

Race 4 Reuben is a kart team competing in 24 hour Kart Endurance Races. Competing in a 24 hour race is a real test of skill, stamina, endurance and teamwork. As a team of 4, each driver will have to drive the kart flat out for 6 hours, doing 4 x 1.5 hour stints. There will also be up to 60 other teams to race against. It’s not easy, but the courage and determination Reuben showed throughout his treatment will always be our inspiration.

2020 is our fourth year of competing in Endurance races. On the weekend of 8th - 9th August we are competing in the British 24 hour at our local track, Teesside Autodrome. This will be our 6th 24 hour race since 2017. This year will be especially challenging due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the the social distancing measures in place. But we are grateful that we are still able to race in Reuben’s memory once again.

Our aim this year is to take our fundraising total to £10,000 and to achieve a podium finish for Reuben along the way will be a great achievement.

Thank you for reading. Please donate if you can, to help us raise money for vital research, so hopefully less children will be taken too soon because of cancer.
