What are we doing? Two teams, one boat, one car, are challenging each other to two arduous journeys - which team are you supporting? Its happening on the 10th May 2008 starting at Lymington Harbour. Its about 180 miles and will take 5-6hours depending upon external factors - traffic, wind, tide, average speeds etc. At this stage it isn't possible to assume either team has an advantage but would encourage you to donate some cash to show your support for the team you think has the harder journey or deserves your donation. The race is to see which team can RAISE MORE MONEY and then safely accomplish the journey. Every donation counts.....every penny is appreciated as is the support you will be expressing to the the team you donate to! Who For? ALL monies raised will be going directly to the National Star College, Cheltenham, to go towards the vital re-development of the campus that supports the developing lives of 160 young disabled adults. Please visit the college website www.natstar.ac.uk for more information regarding their outstanding work. All costs of the event are being covered separately to the donations made to either of the teams. About The Event - It will be a Le Mons style start where both car team and boat team will commence their journey at same location and run/walk to their mode of transport, marking the start of the race. The car team, using an MG Midget plus road side support entourage, will be avoiding travelling on any dual carriage way or motorway, also crossing two rivers by ferry. Maps, planning and details of the team and car can all be found on the Race to Looe website www.racetolooe.co.uk It'll be a cramped and focused drive for the team in the MG Midget, theres not much room, its not quite as reliable or comfortable as modern cars, it guzzles petrol, its nosey and very drafty if the suns not shining. Oh and if it rains - we'll need a brolly. Its important for the focus to be constant to monitor the running of the car, failure to observe how the car is performing at every stage of the journey is the fastest way to find the team calling the AA. Visit the website to find out more about the race, maps, team members and more details of the race challenge. Please note - Not only do we want to get to Looe first, but we want to raise more money than the Boat team......PLEASE DONATE!!! P.S. Don't tell the Boat team, but the CAR team is going to win :o) Please note that although the event is a *race* no laws of land or sea will be broken, nor will risks be taken that put any of the participants in any danger.
