The Mean Bean Challenge - 5 days eating nothing but plain rice and beans -will give you an opportunity to experience hunger, and raise money to end poverty and hunger for people like Matunda.

Story

So it's a pretty different diet and lifestyle I'm undertaking for a few days.. I can be disgruntled at how freelancers are often asked for free work when it's their livelihood but it's a whole new ball game to imagining getting paid in leaves?

It seems almost too absurd to be true, but that’s the awful reality for people like Matunda. She, of course, wants to provide for her family, but all she gets at the end of a hard day’s labour is a tiny handful of yams and cassava leaves. She and her family only eat one small meal a day.

This is terrible... I feel pretty far removed from this...

BUT

I’m fundraising to empower people like Matunda so that they can lift themselves out of poverty.

I've been told that £240 will give four women like Matunda the skills they need to provide for their families. And I'm shooting for £260 to chip into someone else's offering! UPDATE... we're upping this to £480!! Let's see if we can help 8 families by the end of the week! UPDATE AGAIN!! We're shooting for £720 you LEGENDS, let's go go go!!

Would you join me as I take something of a stand against poverty?

Here's the link to read Matunda’s story and find out more about Tearfund’s pretty amazing work.
