Envision - Envision's Big Walk · 16 July 2011 ·

A young person’s background mustn’t determine their future. At Envision, we empower young people from less-advantaged backgrounds to develop essential skills and confidence as they deliver a social action project that makes a positive change in their school or college community.

Story

Cheers for taking a peek at my little ol fundraising page.

In order for you to part with some well earned cash you need to know some basics:

1. What exactly am I paying for?

2. How will my money be spent?

3. Why is my trusted friend/relation/colleague pestering me for money?

Answers:

1. Your donation will sponsor me to walk 20 miles from Hampton Court to Battersea Park. This is tricky for me for 2 reasons; 1) I have Planta Faciitis so walking is actually kinda painful for me little footsies so if you are concerned that this is easy rest assured, I will suffer and 2) I am from north east London so any journey south of the river is an extra effort let alone reaching the furthest south western boundaries!

2. Envision will spend your money on delivering its award winning empowerment programme for young people. At a time of rising youth unemployment and rising tuition fees young people today need all the help they can get to prepare themselves for the big wide world. This is why Envision is doing more to booster the basic skills needed for employment as well as raising awareness of how young people can influence decision making and tackle issues that are important to them.

3. I know that this isn't an immediately heart strings tugging issue. Not everyone is 'bovered' about hugging a hoody. Well I care. I care a lot. The things I did at school that made me who I am were the extra currciular things like organising a fashion show, organising debates, producing the year book, playing in sports teams and running a mini enterprise. These taught me skills that I have used time and time again to get me ahead; how to interact with and motivate a team, how to play to my strengths, how to communicate professionally, how to be persuasive and negotiate and they built up my confidence. You might have had these opportunities too but trust me - a lot of young people do not have these opportunities and they are therefore a step behind when it comes to applying to university, getting a good job and having the self belief to make the most of opportunities that come their way. I care about social mobility and giving disadvantaged young people the opportunities that we take for granted.

Please donate what you can afford - thank you.
