Story
On Sunday 14th April, Ian and I will run the Brighton Marathon in an attempt to raise £3,300 for Whoopsadaisy by running in 3 hours 30 minutes (ish). As you can see from the photo (taken on the finish line of the Brighton half marathon) this will be easier for Ian than I! We are determined to do it, however, in a bid to raise funds for Whoopsadaisy (and equal the money my mum has raised by prolifically sewing bears!).
Whoopsadaisy really is an amazing charity that helps children with cerebral palsy and their families. The charity provides invaluable support for families and they do incredible work in trying to give the children greater range of movement and to help them become more independent in their every day lives. £3,300 would pay for a child's place at the parent and child groups for an entire year. This will make an enormous difference to a child's life. Take Tristan, for example, an adorable 4 year old with quadriplegic cerebral palsy. Tristan joined Whoopsadaisy aged 2 and his physical development was equivalent to a 10 month olds. He got around my rolling around on the floor and could not sit unsupported. Since joining, he has learnt to crawl on all fours and can now use a 'rollator' to walk on his own, he is also learning to take steps using tripod sticks. He can now sit up steadily on a stool, or the floor, and is looking forward to starting full-time education at his local mainstream school in September 2013.
All the children at Whoopsadaisy are incredibly adorable and inspiring in equal measure. They have humour and persistence in abundance and it is the thought of them and the bravery with which I know they would tackle such a challenge that will get us round.
We really are very grateful for anything you can give,
Rachel and Ian xxxxxxx
