On December 30th 2007, I will turn 30. To make this a momentous occasion, I wanted to do something special. I want to raise £3000 for Cancer Research UK - this will represent £1000 for every decade of my life...

As part of my fundraising activities, I plan to walk the Great Wall of China in October 2007.......

For anyone who knows me, you will understand what a huge achievement this will be - not only do I need to get fit first, but the whole experience will be a complete challenge for me. (not least because I'm scared of heights!)

The trip itself starts on the 18th October 2007, when I leave Gatwick for Beijing. I start trekking on the 19th - for 7 days. Then I fly back, and then I rest!!

 For anyone who doesn't know me, my involvement with Cancer Research UK started four years ago. After losing my Gramp to prostate cancer, I felt that I wanted to do something positive. Mum had already successfully had a skin cancer removed, and I had my own scare with a breast lump (which was thankfully nothing).

Since becoming a Cancer Research volunteer, I have met so many amazing people - You know who you all are. I have some very special friends now, and also a renewed belief that we can find a cure for cancer.With so many dedicated people wanting to find a cure- how can we not?!

Since my involvement started four years ago, I have also had my own mini battle with cancer - which just makes me more determined to do this challenge this year.I've also spent some time in hospital this year having my gallbladder removed - tiny obstacles to reaching my ultimate goal..!!

I have started a blog, so that my sponsors can follow my progress as I prepare to go to China, but I really need to raise as much money as I can. It's getting very close now - less than two months - so please, dig as deep as you can.

Just to clarify, I will fund this trip myself, so any money you donate will go directly to CRUK.
