Target reached! Thanks to everyones help and support, my fundraiser on saturday
raised a massive £1183! I have therefore reached my target and have enough for flights and living costs etc.
However, any extra donations would go through to Tearfund and would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rachel
Heeey, so as you might've guessed from the title, I'm going to Uganda!
I'll going for 3 months (March 8th - June 8th) with Tearfund Transform (http://tearfund.org/transform) in conjunction with Uganda COBAP (http://cobap-uganda.org/) who work with HIV/Aids victims etc in Uganda.
""PARTNER INFORMATION:
COBAP (Community Based AIDS Programme) is a local response to HIV in one of the slum areas in Kampala WestDistrict. COBAP started about ten years ago as a small community project. It has four components:
1. HIV/Aids care project: Caring for and counselling people living with HIV and Aids in the slum communities.
2. Youth Intervention project: This part of the project works with the youth in the community to help them live life more positively.
3. Childcare project: working with the children in the community.
4. Community and church capacity building: this project helps the community and church help themselves in dealing with their problems.
COBAP seeks to build the capacity of five slum communities in Kampala to enable them to address the effects of HIV and AIDS through the training of community volunteers, lifeskills education programmes and care and support to people living with HIV and orphans.
TRIP INFORMATION:
Team activities may include:
• Assisting in school HIV/AIDS clubs
• Participating in art events
• Home visits to families with HIV and AIDS related problems
• Helping with skill development projects e.g. knitting, weaving, brick making, baking etc.
• Participate in the children’s centre activities"
Any donations, not just on here (Ollie), would be amazing!

"Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity."
finally got some form of itinerary from the partner in Uganda (COBAP):
"1) Community Care Programmes
Going in 2/3’s for home visits along with the health volunteers. Visit the sick, join in with the club meetings of people and the workshop.
2) Agricultural projects include planting, digging, demonstration gardens – using the church land and the main church leaders will learn from these. (Take gardening gloves with you and have trainers or sturdy shoes)
Group formation – people in churches will identify others to form economic groups to trade together and group those that trade in a similar thing. COBAP will facilitate this and the team will observe.
Self Help Project for evangelism – the team will see how it works and the team will work with them – clearing a well/road, doing something together with people who are not church members.
3) Campaign
COBAP do 1 or 2 campaigns a year. There are many activities around this – designing the material, distributing these, church prayers, home to home evangelism, the march /rally
4) COBAP day (Apr/May time)
An exhibition/activities/advertisement for COBAP. There will be a graduation of those that have completed a literacy course. This will be a big thing and it will take a month to do the activities. Registering people for a blood test on the day. (Please don't do the blood test yourselves! you may wonder why I am saying that but another team did, I would tentatively bring this up with Rachel so she knows your stance on it - if you decide to do the blood test you need to be aware of the risks, we would always advice that an HIV test is done in a counselling situation)
5) School program
School clubs – weekly in a school, there are many schools, so teams of 5 will go to different ones over the 3 months.
6) Child centre activities
These will take place continuously with pre teens and teens. Won’t need the full team but can swap around.
7) Participate in junior and youth sports – around Apr/May in the holiday.
I asked Rachel for a draft itinerary to be sent with some further details of the activities, when they are taking place etc"
