My brilliant dad lived the last two years of his life profoundly deaf after losing his hearing very suddenly. I saw first hand what a huge effect deafness has on a family and it gave me the impetus to learn sign language.

When I started sign language I really only wanted to gain a basic understanding but I very quickly fell in love with the language and the deaf community and culture.

I am a committed advocate for raising deaf awareness and I'm very proud to say I'm ambassador of the national deaf children's society and patron of dDeadlinks Staffordshire.

This Trek is to raise money for dDeaflinks, they're a very small charity that provides a vital service to the deaf and hearing impaired community in and around Staffordshire.
