We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Thanks for visiting my Cancer Research fundraising page.

I want to help raise funds for Cancer Research UK because I've been one of the lucky ones that treatment has worked for, and I believe one day every cancer can have a successful treatment plan available, and believe CRUK are playing a huge part in making that a reality. I'm only here today thanks to treatment that once had to be researched, and the more research that goes into treatment, the more people it can save.

Race for Life 2015 Update

I'm Signed up for the 2015 Race for Life! Been hard at work at the gym last few months and will be until the race. I'm hoping to be able to raise a further £278 this year, bringing this pages total to £1000. A 1K total for me would obviously be rewarding, but the extra money for CRUK could be life changing. According to their website, "£260 could buy a sophisticated microarray; a powerful piece of technology, helping scientists to scrutinise thousands of genes in a single experiment, and identify which are switched on in cancer."

Continuing to raise funds for CRUK is important to me as I've directly benefited from the work and research that has gone into cancer treatments. CRUK have;

  • Supported a major study of CT scanning in lymphoma, helping doctors to choose the best course of treatment for each patient.
  • Pioneered advances in chemotherapy and radiotherapy over many decades, boosting survival from Hodgkin’s lymphoma from just six in 100 patients in the 1940s to eight in 10 today.

And so much more. I've met a lot of people these last 18 months that have all benefited from advances in treatment and are still here enjoying life because of them.

With a minimum online donation of only £2, please consider sponsoring me and supporting Cancer Research :)

#GivingTuesday Update - In less then 2 weeks on Tuesday the 2nd December it's my birthday. This year, the 2nd December is also #GivingTuesday (http://www.givingtuesday.org) - a global day for giving back. Given that I literally have everything I could ask for (and I am in a position where I can earn my own money to get the things I want!), and have received so much from others this past year, not least the life saving treatment and care i was provided, it only seems appropriate I give my birthday this year for a good cause. So I've decided this year I don't want anything (that includes from you family) and ask that if you would usually get me a card or a present, please give that money instead to Cancer Research UK, or Teenage Cancer Trust, that's the best present you could get me. If you decide to donate here and want to leave me a birthday message, that would make me smile loads! Thanks, and remember.. "Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many."

Race for life story; Last year I signed up to run Cancer Research's 'Race for Life' simply because I wanted to do some kind of fundraising event. By the time I came to run, I had received a very unexpected cancer referral from my doctor. When I arrived on the day I was worried, but ended up having a really great time. The sense of comradary and support was overwhelming, despite the fact I didn't really know anybody there. 1 month later I was diagnosed with blood cancer. Today (Febuary , I found out I am in remission thanks to 6 months of chemotherapy, and now I would like to giveback, as if it wasn't for the work done by organizations such as Cancer Research UK, I might not have anything to celebrate. I hope to raise lots of money, the more the better - obviously. But more importantly I want to be there again to show my support and be part of the event once again, and if you have ever thought of running it I really recommend giving it a go - It's a fun day and your support means more to people then you could know. Last year I raised £150, but this year I'm setting a £500 goal. Thanks to the effect of chemo, this is going to be quite a physically demanding challenge for me - a couple of months ago I literally couldn't walk up a set of stairs! So please dig deep and support me and more importantly this awesome charity :) and I'll do my best not to finish last! Events like Race for Life are vital in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring me, we can unite and create a force that cancer can't ignore.
