Three Peaks Challenge · 19 May 2017

We support the ambulance service in Berks, Bucks, Oxon & Hants. We are raising funds: to train & equip our volunteers; to train & equip communities to save lives & to enable the ambulance service to develop & enhance the care it gives. All our funds go to things over & above what the NHS funds.

Story

Radnage's two Community First Responders- Martin Cole and Steve Head- will be tackling the Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend of 19th-21st May as part of a team of 15 CFRs from the South Central Ambulance Service.

Our goal is to reach the highest points in Scotland, England and Wales by climbing Ben Nevis (1,344 m), Scafell Pike (978 m) and Snowdon (1,085 m)...and all within 24 hours!

The South Central Ambulance Charity supports the ambulance service in Berks, Bucks, Oxon & Hants. We are raising funds: to train & equip our volunteers; to train & equip communities to save lives & to enable the ambulance service to develop & enhance the care it gives.

The challenge is entirely self-funded so all money raised will go to the charity which funds things over and above what the NHS provides.

CFRs are volunteers trained in life saving skills such as the use of the automated external defibrillator (AED), basic airway management and oxygen therapy, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR.

We respond to emergency situations, normally within a 5 minute drive, and use this knowledge to provide early and often vital intervention for patients suffering life threatening emergencies. We offer immediate first aid and lifesaving support and then work alongside clinically qualified practitioners once an ambulance arrives on the scene.

Because CFRs only respond to emergencies in the area where they live or work, we can arrive at the scene quickly and, by starting potentially life-saving medical treatment earlier, CFRs really do help save more lives.

These first few minutes are vital for patients suffering from cardiac arrest and other life threatening incidents.  Research has shown that when a patient is suffering from a cardiac arrest their chance of survival decreases by up to 20% for every minute that passes without treatment from an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
