L'Arche builds communities with people who have learning disabilities. Together with assistants, they live in ordinary houses, with choice in and access to work, therapy and local resources. The nine L'Arche communities in England, Scotland and Wales are founded on Christian values, also welcoming people of other faiths and none.

Story

Ian Green is taking part in the Stratford upon Avon Triathlon on Sunday 09/05/10 to raise money for a small community of children and adults with learning disabilities in Zimbabwe.

L’Arche Zimbabwe is the poorest L’Arche community in the world and they care for children with a disability who are orphaned or abandoned because of their disability.  They rely solely on outside donations as they receive no help from their government, and local fundraising is unsuccessful because of local beliefs and customs.

L’Arche is a registered charity in the UK and also an international organisation that supports people with learning disabilities to live lives of dignity and value.  In some cultures disability is feared and children with a disability are then rejected.  L’Arche offers care, shelter, food and love to children who have a disability and have no other source of help or hope.

L’Arche continues to provide and care for these children as they grow and develop into adults. Each child is encouraged to fulfil their potential and Esther is delighted to have been supported to be able to attend the local mainstream school.
