In May 2007 Peter Orme Jeffries (Father-In-Law) passed away. Peter lived in Ashton-On-Mersey for many years, before moving up to Blairgowrie Scotland in his later years. He became involved with The Princess Royal Trust for Carers as a volunteer driver. He continued with this work well into his seventies, always helping as much as he could. He and his friends worked for the pleasure of helping others who couldn't help themselves.
The Trust supports the 6 million carers in the UK who look after a friend, neighbour or loved one without payment and often with little or no help. Thousands of carers are under sixteen, even as young as five. Many carers have given up their own ambitions and careers to look after someone, while many others are older or are struggling with their own disabilities and health issues. Through its network of 133 centres across the UK and websites, the Trust provides a listening ear, emotional and practical help to those who have nowhere else to turn.
In his spare time Peter used to love driving around the Highlands of Scotland, so in a tribute to all of his good work I have decided to walk the West Highland Way in May 2008. I will try and raise some money for the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and would really appreciate your contribution however small.
I will be writing up an account of my walk and you will be able to read all about it at www.ramblingpete.walkingplaces.co.uk The end of the walk will be at the top of Britain on Ben Nevis. All of the expenses for doing the walk are met by myself. I am putting up a prize for the nearest guess to how many steps I take to complete the walk. The route is about 105 miles & includes Ben Lomond and Ben Nevis. The last walk I took 27000 steps for 12 1/2 miles (10 miles on the map). Good luck - write your estimate in the comments section.
