Final Update 20 September 2009

A selection of photos from the trip uploaded - thanks for your support...

Update 09 September 2009

We made it! After a gruelling 5 days of travelling, ENA finally rolled into Split in the late hours of Monday having proved herself to be completely solid - particularly when one of our competing cars tried to consistently ram us, she always came off best.

The Calais to Bern stretch was particularly arduous, 12 hours of motorways taking their toll on the passengers and their patience. However, the Bern to Bormio strech through the Alps was particularly rewarding, testing ENA to the limits, and the coastal route through Croatia stunning.

Now its R&R time, with a few days to enjoy the beaches of Croatia. Ill upload some photos on my return. Thanks very much for your support, I thought we d raise a couple of hundred quid, so to make nigh on 1000 is incredible. Pats on back all round

Update 23 August 2009:

More photos added. The paintjob is complete and the first of the accessories has been added, our pigeon masthead! More will be done in the coming weeks to make her stand out from the crowd just that little bit more. And most importantly, we've now installed a working stereo!

Hello, my name is ENA and welcome to my fundraising page…

I’m a 1988 Volvo Estate and having been with the same family over the past couple of decades, my wonderful owner, Tony Sainsbury, has quite rightly decided that now is the time to put me out to stud with all of the other elderly motor vehicles.

However, before he does that he’s very kindly donated me to be used for one final, epic journey as part of the Ramshackle Rally, to my new retirement home in the Mediterranean city of Split, Croatia, a journey for which I’ll be raising money for the British Paralympics Association.

The drivers for the trip, Will Dyer, Jol Davis and Ed Pope, will be pimping me up in a westcountry style, complete with hay-bale and pitchfork (possibly - pictures to be uploaded soon) so that I can look my very best as I travel through France, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia over the course of a long weekend.

Departing the UK on Thursday 3 September, we’ll be making the short jaunt across the channel to Calais, before starting the rally proper in the early hours of Friday 4 September. From there we’ll be winding our way across France and on to an overnight stop in Bern, Switzerland. There follows an engine busting, brake-melting drive through the Alps and the famous Stelvio Pass, to Bormio in Northern Italy, before pushing on to Ljubljana in Slovenia. Then on Monday 7 September, we’ll be embarking on the final leg, to our destination of Split in Croatia, where I’ll be allowed to spend my final days at peace in a retirement home (called something like Split Salvage I believe).

So please help make this a fitting tribute to a ‘classic’ old car, which Tony has kindly donated for the trip, by donating to his nominated charity, the British Paralympics Association.

In case you didn’t know already, the British Paralympic Association (BPA), brand name ParalympicsGB, is a registered charity which is responsible for selecting, preparing, entering, funding and managing Britain's teams at the Paralympic Games and Paralympic Winter Games.

At Beijing 2008, ParalympicsGB won a staggering 102 medals, including 42 Gold, to finish 2 in the medals table behind only China (but above the USA!)
