Welcome to my personal fund raising page. Please take a couple of minutes to read about my event. .
WHAT I HAVE DONE: On 18th September I set off cycling from Land's End along with 4 other cyclists. At 2:25pm on 1st October, we completed the ride of 1012 miles reaching John O Groats. That's the Southern most point in England to the Northern most point in Scotland. Throughout England we enjoyed fine sunshine, but faced some demoralising hills, especially early on in Corwall and Dartmore. Once we reached Scotland we had to deal with cold, driving rain and wind in our faces, and yes still more Hills. Indeed the last day of the ride was the worse as we had head on wind and rain in our faces which seriously hampered our progress to the finish. .
WHO WILL BENEFIT: There are two charities close to my heart and I will split all money raised between the two. The first is Hope worldwide and I will be raising cash for it’s London based projects Two Step, which helps get homeless people into secure accommodation, and Odaat which helps drug addicts triumph over their addiction and get their lives back on track. Indeed one of my fellow riders Gavin is a graduate of the ODAAT programme, a former drug user who is now helping others. He is proof that people with addictions can turn their lives around. . The second cause is that of Sickle Cell, which is a genetic blood disorder mainly affecting Afro Caribbean people. My wife and I both carry the sickle cell gene and our youngest son has the disease. I will give the other half of the money to the Children's Sickle Cell fund at the Royal London Hospital.
MY MOTIVATION: Before I started my current job, I worked for three and a half years as the Project Manager for the Two Step Programme; hence I have first hand experience of the way that Hope Worldwide can impact on the lives of the people it helps. I feel very fortunate to be in a position to help the homeless. In 1964 my own mother with her 6 month old baby (yours truly) found herself homeless and vulnerable. Finally when my own son was seriously ill with a Sickle Cell "Crisis" in 2003 spending 10 days in hospital, I resolved then to raise money for other children who suffer the extremely painful effects of the illness.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: the charities benefiting get your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. This web page will continue to accept donations for this event up until 18th November.
