Story
Well I did it, quite quickly in the end aswell and was one of the first in.
Thanks to all who gave :-)
Take one
fat mid 30's man, take what is known as the toughest off-road bike ride in the
UK add in one dubious Doctor's okay and you may well have the comedy cycle
attempt of 2010
The sign up form said "This ride is only suitable for very fit and
experienced off-road bikers" so I ignored that and signed up anyway. A
BMI of 32.6 may be Obese but I can cycle with the best of 'em (Downhill at
least)
So the South Downs Way Randonnée 2010 will be attempted by one fat and unfit
cyclist in an attempt to raise some money for charity and as a reason that I
have to get fit or my heart may be in bother!
The thinking goes like this.
If I raise £1000 and I don't do this then I'm letting a fair few people down
and for some reason best left to philosophers or those with at least half a
brain I decided that doing this would be a good idea.
If I raise over the £1000 then I'll do it on a bike with no gears! (it's
not flat over the 100 miles you climb the equivalent of Snowdon 3 times, 3,555 metres or 11,660 feet)
So I am doing this for my heart and hoping to raise some money for others at
the same time.
Here are some helpful guides to think about when deciding how much
£1 = okay if you've read this much but don't fancy it think again and please just give £1 rather than nothing, a quid is so little but if 100 people only give 1 quid then that's 1/10th of the way there.
£5 = 1 beer at a Pub in London
£20 = A round of 4 beers
£50 = 1 Tank of Petrol
£100 = Half an hour with a dubious lady from Staines
So go on! lets see if I can do it on a 1 gear bike please dig deep and donate
now.
