I will be joining a trek toMount Kilimanjaro organised by Friends of The Citizens Foundation (FTCF) on October 16 2009. At 4800m above the East African plains and approximately 6000m above sea level, Kilimanjaro is the tallest freestanding mountain in the world and the highest peak inAfrica. The ascent is over 4 days with 6-7 hours of walking each day and 12 hours on the final day to reach the summit
Inspired by people like Greg Mortenson (author, Three Cups of Tea), I’m hoping to raise as much money as I can to support FTCF in their efforts to provide formal, high quality education for underprivileged children of Pakistan.
Through organisations such as FTCF, underprivileged children now have the chance to take their destiny into their own hands, via education and the doors it can open. FTCF is a UK based charity committed to making education accessible to children. Without a school to go to, these children would otherwise be living a backstreet life open to the extreme elements of violence and crime. FTCF works with the Pakistan based charity, The Citizens Foundation (TCF), which isSouth Asia's largest not-for-profit organisation in the field of formal education.
TCF has expanded its network to 530 purpose-built schools staffed by more than 3,500 female teachers throughout Pakistan - providing nearly 65,000 deserving boys and girls with quality education. However, the battle against illiteracy and poverty doesn’t stop there. TCF and FTCF are committed to a momentous target of educating 350,000 – 400,000 pupils in Pakistan by 2012
Every little counts! As little as £10 can educate a student for a whole month or £120 for a whole year! This is the average costs per month for a child’s uniform, a mid-day snack and school supplies or the year.
