I can only blame Shamini for (or I guess I should blame myself also for
agreeing to such things which seem like a good idea months before the
event)...SO, we're both running in the first ever London half marathon!

Anyway now that we're doing it we've decided to raise sponsorship for a charity we've recently been working with called Excellent Development. They're an impressive small charity that won the UK Charity Award for Best UK charity this year. Their work is focused on enabling disadvantaged communities in semi-arid Kenya to transform their environment sustainably so that they an improve their water supplies, food production, health and incomes.

So here's where your money will help:

£1,000 will provide seeds and training to farmers to learn how to grow more and different types of crops

£2,000 will enable a community to run a tree nursery and plant 4,500 trees on their farms to provide fuel, fruit, fodder, building materials and even medicines

£5,000 will build a school water tank that will provide clean drinking water to an average 350 students

£5,250 will enable a community to build a sand dam holding an average 3 million litres of water to supply 1,200 people with clean water for their family, livestock and nurseries.

£10,000 will support a community with a sand dam, tree nursery, demonstration plot, help them terrace their land and provide training for one year.
