READ Book Project Nottingham is a student led project working under READ Inernational charity. Our aim is to collect as many disused text book as physically possible between September 2009 and May 2010 from local schools. We then sort through them and all the relevant  text books are sent to schools in Tanzania and Uganda. Last year alone we at Nottingham sent over 25'000 text books to Northern Tanzania - and in the three years READ International has been a charity it has seen over 550'000 text books sent to Tanzanian and Ugandan children. Next summer some of our volunteers will go and see the end of this years project by going out to Tanzania to distibute he books amongst the schools, as well as distributing the sports kit and stationary that we also send.

Our project couldn't run with out fundraisin so along side collecting books we must raise £7500,  this helps buy some new text books and get all the books to the children in Tanzania who desperately need the resources we throw away, the children are so passionate about learning so this really could provide them with a better chance in life. Some of the money raised will also help to refurbish some libraries, the more money raised then the more new libraries that will be in use.

Furthermore we run Think Global workshops, which is a new initiative this year, where by trained volunteers will be give workshops to schools in and around Notttingham which are aimed at empowering young people with the knowledge to make a change in the World when they are older - whether that is through recycling, volunteering or even having the vision to think up and carry out a project like this .

We would very much appreciate any support you can offer to any of the events mentioned above, or the books project itself.
